West Mersea RNLI Flooded Vehicle

1st April 2018

Rudely awoken by our pagers in the early hours of Easter Day, it was April 1st and with thoughts of April Fools’ hoaxes running through our heads, blurry-eyed at 2am we rolled out from under our duvets and headed to the station to answer a call to a flooded vehicle on the Strood.  Strood shouts are often contentious, but we couldn’t be sure there were no lives at risk so we launched the lifeboat and went to look.

It was all over fairly quickly, thank goodness. We had almost arrived on scene when we heard over the radio from the local coastguard (who’d got there by road) that the vehicle was empty.  The lifeboat was stood down. We returned to the station.  And to our nice warm beds.
