Speedboat with engine failure

Speedboat with engine failure

June 2018

Shouts always seem to come just as it is time to sit down for supper – and this one was no exception. So up all the volunteers jumped and we launched the West Mersea Lifeboat, Just George, in the early evening to help 5 people onboard a 15ft speedboat with engine failure.

The casualties, helplessly drifting with the wind and tide, had used a mobile phone -dialing 999 – to raise the alarm. We quickly found them in the middle of the river, somewhere between the Molliette and the Power Station.

Cold and wet, we took them aboard the lifeboat and towed their stricken speedboat into Bradwell where we handed them over to the South Woodham Coastguard Rescue team for some sea safety advice.
