On 16th June at 2.45pm Dover Coastguard requested the launch of the West Mersea Lifeboat, Just George, to assist a person who had been knocked overboard from his yacht near Bradwell. The yachtsman had a rope entangled around his propeller, and whilst trying to remove it his boom had knocked him over the side.
When we arrived on scene another yacht had come to help, plucking the casualty from the sea, but in doing so had also fouled her propeller. The casualty was transferred to the lifeboat, taken ashore and met by the South Woodham Coastguard Rescue Team and later an ambulance.
The lifeboat then towed the casualty’s yacht into Bradwell Marina, whilst another passing vessel towed the yacht that helped to safety. When all were in safe hands, the lifeboat returned to the station.
